NOTES for Episode #173 [a mission statement of sorts…]

1) Good evening wherever and whomever you are…you are tuned to BZoO.org on this spider web that we call the Internet. It is Sunday, July 26th, 2009 and coming to you from the Golden Hill neighborhood of San Diego, California this is episode number One Hundred And Seventy Three, Letting Your Freak Flag Fly on State Controlled Radio.

2) Well good evening Starshine and welcome back to this week’s edition of State Controlled Radio. As it is every week at this time, I am your host Mister Jon Kanis and tonight I am relishing what it means to be alive at this particular time and place by celebrating any number of truths that I perceive to be self-evident…namely the truths that all men and women are brothers and sisters regardless of race, creed, color or belief system. That is, as a matter of fact my own personal belief system…my BS if you will, my belief that we are all perfect, that we are all evolving and we are all working out our peculiar destinies on this beautiful rock in space that we call Earth, Patcha Mama, the third stone from the Sun. And I might add that whatever YOU choose to call this place that we are sharing at the moment, well I call it home and while we are still working out our collective and individual karmas together we are all expanding our consciousness through an infinite array of experiences and wherever you choose to place your energy and focus your concentration, THAT is what you are creating in THIS moment. Did I just spend the last two minutes overstating the bleeding obvious? Well, I find it amazing that the nature of consciousness, psychic projection, karmic cause and effect…I find it amazing that these realities are not taught as part of our public school systems. Admittedly, it would be a very esoteric school that I would be a part of and a large portion of my agenda with State Controlled Radio is to present a viewpoint that celebrates life and love and respect for all living things as opposed to MOST of the ideas that I experience through the mass media [disguised as quote unquote entertainment]. It is amazing how much energy [read: money] is spent shaping the consciousness of the masses just to get you to pony up ten or fifteen bucks for the privilege of going into a movie theatre and have your precious time wasted, all in the name of entertainment. Certainly we could be doing something more USEFUL with all that energy expended?

Well, here we are in the summer of 2009, we are forty years on from the summer of 1969, an extraordinary season that witnessed the original Broadway production of the ground-breaking musical HAIR and if we are to go strictly by the astrological references of the song Aquarius, it has taken the last forty years for us to go from the dawning of the age of Aquarius to actually LIVING in the age of Aquarius, where we have advanced to such a state in our consciousness to actually live out the creed of unconditional love for all creatures.

Well, perhaps I’m getting little ahead of myself here cuz the world I see outside my window hasn’t quite yet become utopia, but that’s probably due to some fallacy in MY thinking.

And indeed, to live out the creed of unconditional love for all creatures doesn’t mean sitting back on our asses and watching the world go by passively and if there was a central conceit and the ultimate delay at realizing the visions & the agenda of the counter culture of the 1960s it was the pie in the sky attitude of so many people who believed that a planetary revolution could happen without the applied AND SUSTAINED effort of every individual on the planet. Until the act of love is revered as the ultimate value for each being in the human race, such a revolution is unlikely to occur UNTIL a critical mass where ENOUGH human beings choose to express love in and through their bodies & psyches and project that love outwardly as an extension of self and an awareness of what it means to be compassionate. I may personally be averse to the notion of Dick Cheney and his war mongering efforts but that just shows me where my work is…Mr. Cheney is as deserving of love as any other creature on the planet. In fact, I’d go as far to say that like Adolf Hitler, he probably needs it more than most. And ultimately I wish for the entire planet of Earth to be inhabited by creatures who only wish to love and to peacefully co-exist with one another.

So with that mission statement thus declared I probably sound like quite the freak to some of you listeners and if that’s the case, well then that’s the case. If I don’t sound like a freak then I must be preaching to the choir. Either way, this is my story and I’m sticking to it. And tonight on SCR I am sending out the call to freaks, hippies and love children everywhere by celebrating the music of HAIR, the gloriousness of summertime and the freedom to let your freak flag fly. This summer HAIR is celebrating it’s 41st anniversary with an amazing Broadway revival that is happening at the Al Hirschfield theatre and I had the amazing privilege of witnessing the production on June 17th and for someone who doesn’t particularly care for musicals this show is a marvel of songs, passion and ideas for a world that needs these constructs to take over our ideological hearts and minds. Cosmic consciousness…now more than ever.

Meditate, congregate, copulate…whatever works for you and I don’t care what course of action you take as long as it is done with love.

And the band played on…

3) Love love love love love to everyone who is listening and to everyone who is not we are at the mid way point of tonight’s excursion into the void on SCR as we let our hair down and let our freak flag fly as we celebrate the summer of 2009 with compositions from the classic American Tribal Love Rock musical HAIR and other musical selections that celebrate peace, love and harmonious existence for all beings and it is all going down right here my brothers and sisters on State Controlled Radio.

4) Well, my two hours of show and tell time are just about up for this week on State Controlled Radio. Time to pass the baton on to another runner in this human race.

I wish to express my gratitude this week to Layne Sterling, Joe Ferrelli and Tom Stavrinos who shared the HAIR experience with me in NYC this past June 17th. I still can’t believe they have Bernard Purdie and Wilbur Bascomb in the pit band… My thanks also go out to Gerome Ragni and James Rado who wrote the book and the lyrics to all of the songs that comprise HAIR and to Galt MacDermot who took Ragni and Rado’s ideas and musically made the piece come alive with his splendid compositions. I believe these guys captured their times beautifully as well as creating a statement that is timeless in its message.

My thanks, as usual also go out to RG and BZoO Worldwide Radio for making it possible to communicate with you like this.

All right, not to completely shift gears but please tune in next week where I will be presenting part one of a VERY special two part conversation with Barry Tashian, Vern Miller, Bill Briggs and Chip Damiani…collectively known as The Remains, one of my all-time favorite rock and roll bands. I had the opportunity to interview all four men in Nashville Tennessee back in April and it pleases me to no end to present their story here on State Controlled Radio. So tune in for that next Sunday on August 2nd and the following week on August 9th.

And hot on the heels of The Remains two part special I will be honoring the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Festival with a two hour program featuring highlights from that fabled weekend in 1969 where on August 15th through the 18th music history was made and the world hasn’t been quite the same ever since.

As always, thank you for tuning in, thank you for participating and thank you for sharing your love freely with the rest of the planet.

I will see you again soon and I wish you all the things that you wish for yourself.

Peace, ohm and Nameste my friends. And ciao, baby.

5) State Controlled Radio was channeled, chopped, cooked & candied by Miguel Juan Kanis and brought to you through willful predetermination. Thank you Universe for the love you save is to be shared and spent. What would YOU do with three trillion dollars? War is over if you want it. Peace out everybody.
