State Controlled Radio #209-211 [Specs…The Jack Nitzsche CV Part 1 & 2/Zeitgeist Or Gestalt?]

05.07.10

Hello everyone…

Tonight, on Friday, May 7th please come out to see Sunset Temples perform at the Casbah with our friends Behind The Wagon and Midnight Rivals.  It is going to be a fantastic evening of original homegrown high energy rock and roll.  Sunset Temples go on first at 9 PM.  Our drummer ‘Lil Bull will be fresh from performing with The Donkeys (who are currently on a short tour with The Hold Steady) and I’m sure that he & Blair will be bringing back some great energy from The Donkeys’ Thursday night performance at The Fillmore in San Francisco.  Hope to see you all at the Casbah…

There is other cool stuff going on as well.  In the last blast I told you about the two-part SCR program that I produced in honor of Jack Nitzsche’s birthday.  I also produced a program entitled Zeitgeist Or Gestalt? that explores the notion of those two concepts.  If you happened to miss these programs on BZoO Worldwide Radio…well, you can check them out below.

The Neil Innes show at Acoustic Music San Diego was absolutely fantastic.  It is always great to see Neil and his lovely wife Yvonne.  Many thanks to Carey Driscoll for having the good sense (& taste) to bring Neil to San Diego.

Hot on the heels of performing at the Casbah on Friday night we will continue to party by celebrating 2nd Saturday on May 8th at Hamilton’s Tavern where will be celebrating Blair and Karen’s birthdays (the 15th & 16th respectively) with a three-hour hand-picked program by Blair of The Black Crowes (his all-time fave group).  The featured beers on tap are by Stone Brewing Company (the 4th time that they have been featured for 2nd Saturday).  The fun begins at 5 to 8 PM.  1521 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92102

And, continuing on with the theme of Blair and Karen’s birthdays during the month of May I am continuing on with a recurring feature on SCR entitled The Time Machine where I pick a specific week of the Billboard Hot 100 and do a countdown ala Casey Kasem on the old American Top 40 syndicated radio programs.  Episode #213 will countdown the songs of May 15, 1971 in honor of Blair’s birthday and episode #214 will countdown the songs of May 16, 1980 in honor of Karen’s birthday.  Both of these shows will be a real trip back to what the radio was like the week that Blair and Karen were born.

Oh, while I’m at it I should mention that my extremely talented daughter Emily is performing with the San Diego School Of Rock in the new Women Who Rock program that is being performed on Sunday May 16th at Porter’s Pub and Saturday May 22nd at Queen Bee in North Park.  The kids (sans Emily) are also doing shows on the Police and King Crimson.  For more information go to:

Thanks for investing the time and I hope to see your smiling face soon.

Peace,
Jon
